Liposuction, often combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures, is one of the easiest ways to achieve the result you desire.
Here it the list of frequently asked questions:
Am I suitable for liposuction?
You are suitable for liposuction if:
- You have localized areas of fat deposits that are out of proportion with the rest of your body
- You would prefer more definition in certain areas of the body
- Your skin elasticity is good (liposuction removes the fat but doesn’t tighten skin)
Your surgeon will answer any questions you have and provide you with instructions, but it is likely that before liposuction surgery you will be asked to:
- Stop smoking to promote better healing and minimise complications
- Try to achieve lifestyle or weight changes to ensure best results
- Avoid taking aspirin or other medications which cause increased bleeding
- Get someone to pick you up as you won’t be able to drive (and to stay with you overnight)
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing
Most liposuction procedures only take round ninety minutes, but this varies depending upon how much fat is removed and whether you have multiple liposuction sites on both sides of the body, in which case it may take around 3 hours.
Before the liposuction procedure starts you will be given an anesthetic. Once this has taken effect, the surgeon makes small cuts in the problem area and inserts a suction device to remove the fat.
There are different liposuction techniques your surgeon may use:
- Tumescent liposuction – where a saline solution with anesthetic and drugs is injected into the fat which reduces blood loss, pain and eases the removal of the fat
- Ultrasound liposuction – which uses ultrasound to liquefy the fat prior to removal
Liposuction Recovery Time
Immediately after surgery your wounds may drain or leak fluids for several days and you will need to wear special tight garments to keep your skin compressed for several weeks.
Discomfort, rather than pain, is usual after liposuction which may last for several weeks. Bruising and swelling are normal – the bruising lasting for 7 to 10 days and the swelling being at its maximum after 48 hours and gradually subsiding within over 2-3 weeks.
You should take it easy and not do any strenuous exercise in the first 6 weeks, although light movement, especially walking, is encouraged as soon as possible after surgery.
How much will I save on liposuction prices abroad?
Liposuction costs vary, depending on the area you are having done. Larger areas, such as your tummy will cost considerably more than, say, your upper arms. Generally, most people make savings of 50%, with some as much as 85% by traveling abroad.
Is the quality of care the same for liposuction abroad?
There are certainly unscrupulous clinics out there, but there are also a large amount of good, reliable, high-quality clinics that will perform your surgery with dedication and care.
Do some research on your surgeon and clinic, looking out for professional memberships and accreditation, as well as liposuction reviews from former patients.
Companies such as Medical Departures already pre-check their doctors and clinics, as well as providing patient reviews, virtual tours and clinic photos so you can look before you book and be assured that your liposuction abroad is handled by qualified and reliable doctors.
